Songs We Remember
The White Cliffs of Dover
There鈥檒l be bluebirds over,
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.
There鈥檒l be love and laughter,
And peace ever after,
Tomorrow when the world is free.
The shepherd will tend his sheep,
The valley will bloom again.
And Jimmy will go to sleep,
In his own little room again.
There鈥檒l be blue birds over,
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.
Lili Marlene
Underneath the lantern, by the barrack gate,
Darling I remember the way you used to wait.
鈥楾was there that you whispered tenderly,
That you loved me, you鈥檇 always be,
My Lili of the lamplight, my own Lili Marlene.
Orders came for sailing, somewhere over there,
All confined to barracks was more than I could bear.
I knew you were waiting in the street,
I heard your feet, but could not meet,
My Lili of the lamplight, my own Lili Marlene
It鈥檚 a Long Way to Tipperary
It鈥檚 a long way to Tipperary,
It鈥檚 a long way to go.
It鈥檚 a long way to Tipperary
To the sweetest girl I know.
Goodbye Piccadilly,
Farewell Leicester Square.
It鈥檚 a long, long way to Tipperary,
But my heart鈥檚 right there.
Pack up your troubles
Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile.
While you鈥檝e a Lucifer to light your fag,
Smile boys, that鈥檚 the style.
What鈥檚 the use of worrying,
It never was worthwhile, so
Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile.
Apple Blossom Time
I鈥檒l be with you in apple blossom time
I鈥檒l be with you to change your name to mine.
One day in May, I鈥檒l come and say
Happy surprise that the sun shines on today.
What a wonderful wedding there will be
What a wonderful day for you and me
Church bells will chime
You will be mine,
In apple blossom time.
Let Me Call you Sweetheart
Let me call you sweetheart,
I鈥檓 in love with you.
Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.
Keep the lovelight glowing in your eyes so true.
Let me call you sweetheart,
I鈥檓 in love with you.
Lambeth Walk
Any time you鈥檙e Lambeth way
Any evening, any day.
You鈥檒l find us all,
Doing the Lambeth Walk. (oi?)
Every little Lambeth gal,
With her little Lambeth pal.
You鈥檒l find 鈥榚m all
Doin鈥 the Lambeth Walk. (oi?)
Everything free and easy,
Do as you darn well pleasy.
Why don鈥檛 you make your way there
Go there, stay there.
Once you get down Lambeth way
Every evening, every day,
You鈥檒l find yourself
Doin鈥 the Lambeth Walk.
For Me and My Gal
The bells are ringing for me and my gal,
The birds are singing for me and my gal.
Everybody鈥檚 been knowing,
To a wedding they鈥檙e going,
And for weeks they鈥檝e been sewing,
Every Susie and Sal.
They鈥檙e congregating, for me and my gal,
And sometime, I鈥檓 gonna build a little home for two,
or three or four, or more.
In Loveland, for me and my gal.
Three Little Fishes
Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool,
Swam three little fishes and a mama fishie too,
鈥淪wim鈥 said the mama fishie, swim if you can,
And they swam and they swam all over the dam.
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
And they swam and they swam all over the dam.
鈥淪top鈥 said the mama fishie,
鈥渙r you鈥檒l get lost鈥,
The three little fishies didn鈥檛 wanna be bossed.
The three little fishies went off on a spree,
And they swam and they swam right out to the sea.
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu,
And they swam and they swam right out to the sea.
Bless 鈥榚m All
Bless 鈥榚m all, bless 鈥榚m all,
The long and the short and the tall
Bless all the sergeants and WO ones
Bless all the corporals and their blinking sons.
For we鈥檙e saying goodbye to them all as back to the barracks we crawl
You鈥檒l get no promotion
This side of the ocean, so
Cheer up my lads, bless 鈥榚m all.
South of the Border
South of the border, down Mexico way,
That鈥檚 where I fell in love and stars
above came out to play.
And now as a wander 鈥
my thoughts ever stray,
South of the border,
Down Mexico way.
She was a picture, in old Spanish lace,
Just for a tender while,
I kissed a smile upon her face.
鈥楥ause it was fiesta 鈥 and we were so gay,
South of the border 鈥 Mexico way.
Ay-yi, yi, yi, Ay-yi, yi, yi.
Ay-yi, yi, yi, Ay-yi, yi, yi.
The Siegfried Line
We鈥檙e going to hang out the washing on the Siegfried Line,
Have you any dirty washing, mother dear?
We鈥檙e going to hang out the washing on the Siegfried Line,
鈥楥ause the washing day is here.
Whether the weather may be wet or fine,
We鈥檒l just rub along without a care.
We鈥檙e going to hang out the washing on the Siegfried Line,
If the Siegfried Line鈥檚 still there.
Oh! Johnny, Oh! Johnny, Oh!
Oh! Johnny, Oh! Johnny,
How you can love,
Oh! Johnny, Oh! Johnny,
Heaven鈥檚 above.
You make my sad heart jump with joy,
And when you鈥檙e near I just
Can鈥檛 sit still a minute.
I鈥檓 so, Oh! Johnny, Oh! Johnny
You make my sad heart jump with joy,
And when you鈥檙e near I just
Can鈥檛 sit still a minute.
I鈥檓 so, Oh! Johnny, Oh! Johnny please tell me dear
What makes me love you so?
You鈥檙e not handsome it鈥檚 true,
But when I look at you,
Oh! Johnny, Oh! Johnny, Oh!
This is the Army Mr Jones
This is the army Mr Jones,
No private rooms or telephones.
You had your breakfast in bed before 鈥 but you won鈥檛 have it there any more.
This is the army Mr Green,
We like the barracks nice and clean.
You had a housemaid to clean your floor, but she won鈥檛 help you out any more.
Sleepy Lagoon
A sleepy lagoon, a tropical moon and two on an island.
A sleepy lagoon and two hearts in tune in some lullabyland.
The fire-flies鈥 gleam reflects in the stream,
they sparkle and shimmer.
A star from on high, falls out of the sky
and slowly grows dimmer.
The leaves from the trees all dance in the breeze
and float on the ripples.
We鈥檙e deep in a spell as
Nightingales tell, of roses and dew.
The memory of this moment of love
Will haunt me forever.
A tropical moon, a sleepy lagoon,
And you.
Kiss me Goodnight Sergeant-Major
Kiss me goodnight Sergeant-Major
Tuck me in my little wooden bed.
We all love you Sergeant-major
When we hear you bawling
Show a leg!
Don鈥檛 forget to wake me in the morning
and bring me round a nice hot cup of tea,
Kiss me goodnight Sergeant-major
Sergeant-major be a mother to me.
Wish Me Luck
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye,
Cheerio, here I go, on my way.
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye,
Not a tear but a cheer, make it gay.
Give me a smile I can keep for a while,
In my heart while I鈥檓 away.
鈥楾il we meet once again you and I,
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye.
There鈥檒l always be an England
There鈥檒l always be an England,
While there鈥檚 a country lane,
Whenever there鈥檚 a cottage small
Beside a field of grain.
There鈥檒l always be an England,
While there鈥檚 a busy street,
Whenever there鈥檚 a turning wheel
A million marching feet.
Red, white and blue,
What does it mean to you.
Surely you鈥檙e proud,
Shout it aloud,
Britons awake!
The friendship too,
We can depend on you.
Freedom remains, these are the chains, nothing can break.
There鈥檒l always be an England
And England shall be free
If England means as much to you
As England means to me.
We鈥檒l Meet Again
We鈥檒l meet again
Don鈥檛 know where, don鈥檛 know when
But I know we鈥檒l meet again some sunny day.
Keep smiling through,
Just like you always do
鈥楾il the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away.
So will you please say 鈥榟ello鈥
To the folks that I know,
Tell them I won鈥檛 be long.
They鈥檒l be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song.
We鈥檒l meet again,
Don鈥檛 know where, don鈥檛 know when
But I know we鈥檒l meet again some sunny day.
