My mother was taking me for a war time walk to Woolaton park. We lived in Aspley then near what’s now the Beechdale Pub. The air raid siren went off so they had to dash off. We didn’t have an air raid shelter then so my mother got under the table — dragging me underneath with her. I was a toddler at the time so it was one of my earliest memories.
