My Elementary school was mixed and as I didn't have a gas mask I was sent home. I was evacuated to Scotland to my grandparents' when they bombed the docks but the dishonesty meant that my grandfathers and I must never forgive the Germans for destroying all that lovely malt whisky. I was evacuated for two years and missed home.
My greatest disappointment of the war was not learning grammar because in scotland it was done later and in England it was done earlier, therefore i had a gap in my education.
I was 9 years old when I came back to England so I only had 2 years to catch up for the 11 plus exam.
I have memories of radio workers play time and the Children's Hour, which I never liked to miss. I liked poetry like this:
"Last the night in going down,
Made walls and trees golden brown"
My Grandma thought that I was odd. My life has been a glamorous failure but I have enjoyed every minute of it.
