We had several members of the P.O.W on our farm, some German and some Polish. My mother used to make them meals everyday and in return they used to Whittle and make toys for us. One even made a hen toys because it was a farm.
My dad used to buy produce from other farmers in Rich borough etc and went out even when bombs were dropping.
We had no air raid shelters but our dogs could always tell when the planes were coming and as we didn鈥檛 have an air raid my mother put us under a bid old desk with the dogs and lots of cushions and we had to hope for the best.
