We were going on an exercise leaving Southend-On-Sea and the Officer in charge had to turn back because he had forgotten his map case.
As we were turning back the sirens started to sound and we heard a doodlebug coming our way.
We collected the forgotten map case and set out on our journey again only to find that the road was blocked because the doodlebug had landed on it.
Had we not gone back for the case we would have been its casualties.
