On life in the WRENS Irene says 鈥 鈥淚 loved it, I lived for going ashore and dancing鈥. She joined in 1941 serving firstly in HMS Valkyrie in Douglas, Isle of Man. She was later posted to Ainsdale where she remembers 鈥 鈥 I used to go to tea dances in Southport and also dancing at the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton and sometimes on the tram to the Grafton Rooms in Liverpool鈥.
