(This story was submitted to the Peoples War website by a volunteer at the Bletchley Park VE Day street party on behalf of Mrs Libby and has been added to the site with his permission. Mrs Libby fully understands the sites terms and conditions).
My cousin was one of the Dambusters. He did still photography at Pinewood studios after the war. He sold his medal but later it was given back to him for his lifetime. His name was on the Mess sheet as one of the Dambusters who actually came back. He was the Rear gunner on the plane. He shot at the searchlights battery as they came in. They attacked one of the Dams. They went to Canada to train beforehand.
I lived in Mill End in London and the first Buzz Bomb fell on waste ground nearby. After it crashed we went to the site and I picked up 2 pieces of metal. Nobody knew what it was but later all sorts — Army, Air force and Americans came to see what it was. They came to my house and they took the piece of metal with a number on it — but let me keep the other piece. They thought it was a plane and looked for a pilot. Bits of plaster fell and all the cups were smashed.
I was about 19 or 20 at the time.
