The proms were on and my father and I went up on the train. I think it was the Russian Army Choir playing. The last train from Waterloo went at 9:30pm. There were no lights at the station you had to guess when you reached the platform. A raid started and the train stopped and we had to get off. We sheltered in a telephone box. Dad was I a chemist in Ashford, the shop next door was a funeral parlour. The only people who had petrol was funeral directors. So my Father rang and said could you come and collect us I think we鈥檙e in Hounslow. It was 1 o鈥檆lock in the morning. Mr Webb got in his car and came to collect us. I don鈥檛 think it was a hearse.
