Beake Avenue, Radford, had an anti-aircraft gun and I saw it shoot down a German plane, which crash landed in Awsley.
I was also evacuated from place to place - Kenilworth first, to St Johns St and attended St John's school for a time. While I was there two land mines went off behind the school and us children went out to collect the shrapnal. Another went off shortly after near the clock and destoyed the pub.
Later I was evecuated to Cleobry Mortmory and went to Wyre Camp School where I stayed for four years (1941-5). I would return to Coventry during the holidays and would alwasys find it a shock to see the city centre destroyed.
