Clockwork Dinosaur
The Germans bombed Lance鈥檚, they said
but I didn't know what it meant.
I was a kid.
I was just a kid and we went see it
but all was broken bricks.
The cash register was bits, too,
but in it, I saw the wheels.
I saw just the wheels and sensed the magic
of turning and turning:
movement of movement
and wheels within wheels
Wheels just within wheels
bind me now the innocence has gone -
now that I know
that I am just another wobbly wheel
in somebody else's cash register.
