April 1st 1942 Wednesday
Din telephoned to say she is going to the Canteen on Saturday, so have asked her to come down for Sunday & Monday. Am looking forward very much to that. Received a cheque from Mamma & Poppa enclosing cheque for 拢5.0.0! That brings the "Grand Total" to 拢36.16.0!! Are we lucky or are we?
April 2nd 1942 Thursday
Managed to get some dates with points. What a to do it is with the shopping. Points for nearly everything. However, mustn't grumble. Had a letter from Edwin Monday. He is very well, we are longing for his next leave which should be at the end of this month.
April 3rd 1942 Good Friday
We are at the office today and tomorrow we just get Monday off but that will certainly make a break. I hope the weather keeps fine although its not very promising - quite dull today. Hope to pop up to East Ham tomorrow. I want to buy some new curtains for the dining room. Mrs Sharp is not at all well; she is suffering with nerves, almost a breakdown, so I must see her, also dear Mrs Hill.
April 9th 1942 Thursday
I went to East Ham on Saturday to do some shopping, called on Mrs Sharp and spent a couple of hours with Mrs Hill. We had a really intimate talk and she is such a dear, it was really most helpful. Din came on Sunday last when she had rested (after Canteen all night) we had tea. She loves the bungalow and we both slogged in on Monday - it looks much better for it too. Received a letter from my husband on Monday and another Tuesday. Am longing for the next 7 days leave.
April 24th 1942 Friday

May 4th 1942 Monday
Have just returned from a Perfect Holiday. We both had the "bestest" time of our lives. We spent the weekend at home, having Mother & Dad over to dinner & tea on the Sunday to celebrate our birthdays, Went up to Town Monday to the Adelphi to see Ivor Novello's show "The Dancing Years". Very good, wee bit sad- Spent the night at The Imperial Hotel, Russell Sq - wonderful time!! Caught the 8.30 am from Euston up North. Had our wedding photographs taken. Arrived back at "The Gables" Thursday evening. Spent a "Perfect Last Night". We took Mother for a lovely walk on the Friday afternoon. I went with Edwin to Barking; he wouldn't let me go to Victoria with him, and so we came to the end of a "Super week". "Never-to-be-forgotten-week". I went down to Grays on Saturday and bought some very pretty curtaining so now we must get on with the Spring cleaning - in readiness for the next 7 days. Must start saving rapidly in fact "Save Like Stink" .
June 8th 1942 Monday
We all spent a very lovely day at Bushey yesterday, with Mr & Mrs McAlpine. I arranged for a car, the ones that catered for our wedding. He called for us at 11.30 am. They have a delightful bungalow and a lovely garden. Much talking went on as they hadn't seen us for approx 22 years!!!!
We did enjoy it tho! We left there about 8.30 pm and arrived home at 9.45 pm.
June 15th 1942 Monday
Spent the weekend with Din, had a lovely time. She read me some letters from "Yellow Jumper"- he is out in India. I arrived home approx 9 pm. Had a washing day last night. I feel very pleased with the bungalow and I shall be flying round in readiness for my husband's homecoming this Friday. I hope to go and meet him when he lets me know time and place. I do hope he will be able to make it. What a celebration for "OUR 20th June"!
