My husband was escorting a Dakota that would drop food to general Windgate in India and his plane came down in the Burmese jungle. I received a missing on active service letter from the RAF, which was terrible. Luckily Indians hid him from the Japanese and the escorted towards his base, but he still had to walk 150 miles through the jungle with just a compass eating what the monkeys ate.
A year later his plane was sabotaged and he crashed at 180 miles into trees, unfortunately his two passengers were killed but he survived.
