I did my training in the ATS in Halifax, Yorkshire and when that finished after a month in 1942 I was posted to Rochford in Essex. My husband at that time was manning the Ac-Ac guns. There was quite a lot of enemy airial activity and the guns were in constant use. I was a telephonist and took calls that activated the alarms - we shared the canteen with the ac-ac operators and it was in the dinner queue that I met my husband. There were approx 100 ATS Staff at Rochford all doing co-ordinating jobs
