I was seven years old when war was declared. My three brothers were in the regular army. The eldest, John (Jack), was 27, and the youngest, Alick, was nineteen. They were both in the 12th Royal Lancers. Victor, 24, was in the 17th/24th Lancers.
The cavalry regiments became mechanized, the 12th being a reconnaisance unit were the first in with their armoured cars and scout vehicles.
