Frederick Oldfield. Landed in Normandy in 1944, in august. By september 1944 went with the advanced party. Of 34 air stores park. To Brussels. 20 years old, knowing nothing, ignorance of the suroundings, but for him it was an adventure. Another country another language, different currency. His first night there he we went into brussels to explore and found thsi small cafe, called cafe figero. Inside was a radio gram, or record player. He was with around 5 other friends, and sat and talked to teh proprieter and his wife, whose names were Marcel and Ghilaine Debliek. Before the end of teh night the propriter had brought in four young girls to keep them company, however the yound ladz didnt speak french, and the girls only spoke french and a little german. When he was in Caine there was no electricity. They had a 250 watt generator and 110 watt lamps. He spent 18 months in brussels, then spent a following year in Hamburg. No regrets in being part of the war.
