I went into the shelter one night during the air raid whilst I was pregnant with my son. It was dark and I was looking for somewhere to sit. I saw a small metal stool and went to sit down, as I sat down a man screamed, I had sat on his head, my stool was his tin hat still on his head. I’ll never forget that. After that I never went back to the shelter I always hid under the stairs during air raids.

I was in Mill Road in October having my son, I had Dr Grey looking after me, the following may the hospital was hit and Dr Grey was killed. When I was there was an air raid whilst I was in labour and I was left alone while the bombs were dropping as all the staff had to go for cover and there where too many patients to be taken somewhere safe.

We lived in Parton Street in Kensington and one day the "all clear" was sounded and we all went to bed, then we heard a noise and then bombs started dropping at the front and back. The doors from our house were blown in as well as all the windows. The bombs had demolished the houses behind and in front of our house.
