We lived on January Street. During the war we had to go to the air raid shelters. Land mines were coming down in parachutes. We went to Plimbly Grover School. When we were evacuate all around room were posters. Great excitement we were evacuated abroad. Parents wouldn't allow so evacuated to Sonnerford Hall, Corgleton Cheshire. They prepared school Droms. Big dinning room was very different from what I was used to. I had an initiation night- had to get on stage and do party piece - sang "Dancing with my shadow". I couldn't read or write as I had dyslexia. I was moved back to 07 class to learn to draw. I was there for 2 years. Mother had been evacuated to Nelson. We were in air raid shelter and leg went sceptic. We had to walk 2 1/2 miles to hospital, so we used netles to take down the infection.
My father had been in RAF in Far East. When he came back the family had been in 'rooms' and we had to be quiet while there, because grumpy people from the other room told us off.
But when father came back, we huggend and kissed but we said to him: "shhh' we must be quiet!". He asked why and we told him about the grumpy people next door. He went round and said "I'm back now- and you'll not tell my children not to make noise anymore".
