MY Granddad David Murray came from Scotland I believe and he was a very religious Christian.
So much so that at the beginning of the war he was a conscientious objector. There were many folk with this faith and belief and the British Authorities, because of the shortage of manpower, found a way to utilise these people, by employing them as Auxiliary personnel. My Granddad became a fire man and many others became ambulance personnel and Pioneer Corp members. Many of them served in battlefield and dangerous environments, and a few preferred to go to prison. The social responsible ones managed to justify some sort of community emergency profession
He was for the most part an operator of the Air-Raid sirens.
I鈥檓 afraid I do not know too much, a prime example of disappearing information.
