While we were at war we were at a place called Wansome on the Dutch / Belgium border. Someone found a live pig and because I was a butcher they got me to kill and prepare it for cooking. We shared it amongst us and we lived well off it. When we had to move onto the next place we each got a bucket and put our meat into it. So we were marching in full uniform with our rifles in one hand and in the other hand we each had our bucket with our cooked pork in. Another regiment saw this and they called us the ‘Pig Platoon’.
