I was working in a plate shop and was the only girl there. It was very noisy, and very heavy, hard work.
I was then sent to Scotland, needing shells. That was working on a massive, very long machine.
I also worked at Rolls-Royce during the war etching conrods. I hated that, it was boring.
I wasn't lonely because I stayed with my brother and my mother. We moved back to Derby after the war. We couldn't do what we wanted even then. They found out that I worked in a canteen, so I had to go off and work in a canteen feeding the soldiers.
I was more scared in Derby then in Scotland because they bombed a few streets away in Derby.
