My father in law, James Ford, "Jim", or "Pop", as I called him, was an officer in Bomb disposal during WWII. He was awarded the George Medal by King George VI for defusing a bomb that was stuck up a chimney in an old people's home in Dartford, Kent.

In those days the life expectancy of a bomb disposal officer was only 6 weeks! When he was home on leave, my mother in law told me that the local butcher would make sure that the Ford family got the best meat in the shop! However, Pop beat the odds and lived to see the year 2000, although not the year 2001.
