J. Arthur Rank owned Denamen Studios and he allowed the American soldiers to be stationed there. The soldiers threw a party for the local kids and we had never seen so much food! Marlene Dietrich was there filming a new film with Eric Von Stronheim. I was wary of him as he always played a baddy!

After a while I decided to take some of the food down to the river to see if I could catch anything. Marlene Dietrich asked me where I was going so I told her and she wanted to come with me. She had never been fishing before and wanted to see what it was like. I showed her what to do and she soon caught a perch! She was absolutely delighted! We fished for about an hour and a half when Eric Von Stronheim came to see what she was up to and fetch her back for filming. She was jumping around with pride as she showed him her fish in my keep net. She insisted that Eric paid me for my troubles, so he took his monocle from his eye, took out his wallet and gave me a crisp five-pound note! I was made up! That was an absolute fortune for me! We threw the fish back and they both returned to the studios.

While the soldiers were there, whenever a car or truck used to crash or breakdown they never used to bother with it. They used to literally stack them against one particular wall at the studios. Eventually the wall collapsed under the weight of the scrap. Unfortunately the wall backed onto a cemetery and just behind the wall was the grave of Mosley鈥檚 wife. It broke the headstone and when he found out he went mad. He insisted that the wall was removed and the headstone replaced. When this was done, Mosley was allowed to be escorted out of prison to check that all was returned to normal.
