In December 1940 I spent a whole night in the Abbeydale picture house during the Sheffield big blitz on the city.I was one of many children and we passed the night singing songs.By the end of the night the ballroom floor was packed as we lay like sardines.People were coming in from the street with their belongings wrapped in bundles.
the only drinking water came from a dripping tap .A long line of people were allowed to wet their lips from the same cup.
My Mother reluctantly had a sip at the insistence of my Father.
Is there anyone who recalls that night?
