The following story is a cameo taken from the 7 years I served with the Fleet Air Arm.

A NORTH EAST TOWN

For five long years there was endless night,
With fear the relief from pain.
Exquisite suffering, filled with doubt —
Could life ever be the same?

One day the clouds were not so dark,
A new spirit moved among men.
A dove of peace was seen to soar —
Surely THE PROMISE was there then!!

Peace has come, but what a challenge.
To repair all evil ways!!
Where can we turn for unfailing strength,
For labours of coming days?

There is a power, for some so clear —
For others, with a different name.
But whatever man chooses to call his GOD,
THE PROMISE is just the same.

For future years, for was weary men,
THE PROMISE is constantly proffered.
For peace in this land, and all the world —
If we accept what he has offered!!!
