In 1940 I was sent to Canada with my sister and attended the High School in St. Thomas, Ontario. I joine the Militia in 1942 and a year later enlisted in the Regular Army. After training I was posted overseas to England and I was sent to the Lincoln & Welland Regt.in Dec 1943.
When I was at Crowborough they wanted to give us openair experience and we were living in bivouacs prior to going to Europe. A doodlebug hit our cookhouse killing 9 men - I still attend the Memorial Sevices each year with the onlyother surviving member of the Unit.
In July '44 we were sent to Normandy with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division and subsequentlyserved in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany untilMay 1945 when I was withdrawn from the front line.
