There are three memories I have of the Second World War. This first memory is hear say as I was 12 months old. My mother was bathing me in the kitchen sink, when the air raid siren went. She scooped me up and ran to the Anderson shelter.
When I started school I spent all my time in the school shelter which I loved as we were read to all day.
Walking home from shopping with my mother and sister, we heard a chug chug of the V1 rocket or doodle bug. We ran to an alley to shelter, the engine stopped and we heard the explosion! We were alright - again!
