In March 1944 a B17 Flying Fortress (USAAF) Aircraft from Chelveston Air Base, crashed soon after take off. It landed on my parent鈥檚 bungalow and a barrack block in Yelden Bedfordshire. My brother (14) and sister (4), the entire aircraft crew (10?), and servicemen in the barracks were killed. 21 died in total. I was born in May 1944, two months afterwards.

There is a memorial in the Parish Church in Yelden to those who lost their lives.
