stephen was in the teritorial army,he joined this war on 1st september 1939, he was brought up in heaton,he was fighting in the war from 1939-1945.he never spoke much about the was at home to his family he only talked about the good times in the war he never said a word about the bad times.In 1941 he was captured in Dunkirk and also in african deserts he was captured by the italian.when he was a prisoner of war he couldn't escape,he had to look after the injured people.he had a handicapped son but he didnt know this until he came back from the war this ment he had to give up all his rashins in dunkirk he damaged his knee and still now his knee is still badly injured.
