This contribution to People鈥檚 War was received by the Action Desk at 大象传媒 Radio Norfolk and submitted to the website with the permission and on behalf of Mr Roger Kerrison
I lived at Carlton Rode and when I was nine a B17 from Bedford, loaded with bombs , came down in a field behind my house. After it was cleared by bomb disposal we were able to play on it. I could flap the wings, get the landing lights to work and go inside. It was very exciting for a nine year old.
The bomb disposal man had to stand on his head in order to get at the detonators. As he did so, his wallet dropped out of his jacket and down the plane with its contents of 拢90 - a large amount for those days. He came back and found it before I did!!
