This story was submitted to the Peoples War site by Brian Minor of the GMR Action desk on behalf of Maureen Shillitoe and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

We had an Anderson shelter in the garden and we had a hot water cistern that rumbled upstairs.
There had been an air raid and when it ended we all trooped back into the house. Next thing Father came running down the stairs and ran back into the shelter. "Get them kids out of the house" he cried. Mother walked down the Garden to see what was going on. She pushed her head in the shelter saying "What you doin'" ,
"Shape yourself, can't you hear the bombs", he said.
Mother said "Get back in the house - Its only the Cistern rumbling!"
