When the war started I was ten years old and we lived in South East London. My parents took my sister and I to live in Seasalter in Kent where our friends had a spare bungalow. One of my strongest memories is of swimming in the sea with mother and seeing planes flying overhead. We waved to the planes and my mother shouted 'good luck boys' as she always did, only to discover later that they were german planes on their way to bomb Ramsgate.
