My Story of World War Two
When the war broke out I was living in Aachen in Germany which was an important town on Dutch/Belgian border so it was bombed a lot.
My parents and my sisters told me that our house was burnt down and all my belongings were destroyed.
I was eating loads of potatoes, carrots and spinach with little meat as meat was scarce, the bread looked like yellow cake.
I am 15 as the war begins, my sisters Elizabeth and Josephine were really scared because they told me that all our belongings were brown and burnt so my mum made them throw it on the bin, I had nothing left, my house was bombed and I haven鈥檛 seen any of my friends.
I couldn鈥檛 go to school at all because practically all the schools in Germany were bombed so I didn鈥檛 learn anything at all.
I felt scared tonight as I was going to bed, my mum heard me crying so she came in and asked what was the matter I asked: 鈥渨hen鈥檚 the war going to end mum?鈥 she said don鈥檛 worry it鈥檒l be over soon.
I didn鈥檛 get evacuated but I had to leave because of all the bombings that happened every night, luckily I went with my sisters and my mother-my dad was in the war fighting for Germany.
I had to sleep in cellars some nights, all of my family had to share one bedroom between us, I was sleeping in a barn for two night鈥檚 as well and as the war ended I was sleeping in a unit.
When I was 17 the Nazi Government sent me to work in Poland as a teacher to teach students German, I had to walk several miles for me to get to work on time.
I feel scared for the remainder of this war for my family and hopefully my dad will come back to me and be a normal happy family.
Tonight I was sleeping when my mum came in yelling to me to grab my coat I grabbed it and I was hurrying down to the cellar which I had to stay in until we got the all clear and relived another day.
At the end of the war I buried my swimming medals in case the American army thought I was one of the Nazis, the enemy who supported Hitler.
