Having swept for mines prior to the landings we assumed patrol across the bay ,guardihg the Empress of Bermuda-the troopship. The fort above Oran manned by the French shelled us for two days without succes before being taken out by a British battleship. Next early morning a Frenfh destroyer appeared round the west point and opened up without success .
Unfortunately she did not know that H.M.S Brilliant a detroyer , was anchored inshore who slipped her anchor abd gave chase . sinking her in short order-- a great grandstand view!
