Illegitamacy during the war
This was kept very secret, depending on your parents. Mother used to say" don't go up the entry with a boy". People who where pregnant were treated like they were filth, like it was a terrible thing - like it was murder. It was a disgrace. Your mother and father could even show you the door.

Our mother used to chec our dresses to see if we had grass stains on the back.
I went to a girls school of 400 people - if one got pregnant everyone would know and say "have you heard about.....?"We had curfews...me dad's belt

Posted on: 26 November 2004 by uniqueDella

I was A baby in the war and I grew up with a stigma. My mother was a widow involved with a GI and she never told anyone anything about him so I cant trace him My Birthcertificate is blank How do I proceed ? I Know he was at RAF Honington in 1943/44 . Perhaps from Detroit USA or that area.
