I remember years ago when the war was on the memories stayed in my head it has never gone
mum would send me shopping to the local store
we had ot have a ration book because there was a war.
A big blue cross upon your book that meant you had your share
I remember saying to mum - well I don't think that's fair
Dried eggs and tomatoe juice we had that once a week
we had it on a sunday it was a special treat
then there was the sirens, which was a dreadful sound
mum would take us running to shelter underground.
we had to have a gas mask which was made of rubber
and a special mickey mouse one which was for my brother
Ships, aeroplanes and tanks
All our men in different ranks
Soldiers sailors and airmen too
Flags flying red white and blue
Every mum was proud of their son
They all came home when they had won
But hundreds of men didnt come home
Memorials of soldiers were made out of stone
They are the men that helped win the war
They won't be forgotten that is for sure.
