I was 9 when the war started and 15 when it finished. I remember seeing a flying bomb. We lived near an ammunition factory and the Germans were trying to find this factory. They never mananged to get to it. There were big guns in Oldham park and we could hear them firing. We used to go and collect the shapnel.
When there was a raidon we used to go into the Shelter and the next daywe didn't have to go to school until the afternoon.
I remember seeing a German plane caught in the search light, the pilot was caught as he flew down with his parachute.
One day, my friend and I were walking past the tip and we saw a plane flying over. We started waving thinking that it was one of ours, but it started shooting at us.
My sister and I were going to be evacuated to Canada my mother didn't let us go because the boat had sunk on the way over.
