My father volunteered for the navy but was turned down beacuse of poor eyesight. He was then put in charge of a converted motor
garage making parts for military equipment.
Thses were small parts, so my father got all his familly together and we would sit in the air raid shelter assembling them. This we did for three years.

It was only years later, when I was working at Vickers that i discovered these parts were for Submarines and were top secret!!
