At the begging of the war Olive lived in eggham in surrey with her mother, father and all 6 of her brothers and sisters and later moved in with her husband Harry she was 26 when war was declared and on this day she can remeber the frist siren going off. Olives house itself was not bomed but places around her were like crown street was destroyed and asham street drapper shop where you could buy household goods and materials for socks, tights which was very important at that time was also destroyed. Before Harry was called up they took in a evcauee she was jewish and called Lilliah Frezberg and her parent would come every saturday to visit but when Harry was called up Lilliah had to go home in to a life of uncertinty . Harry was called up in september 1941 and returned in may of 1946 and Olive went to live with her mum,dad sister and niece and worked in a factory which made airaplane parts in stains which she found difficult and hard. one night Olive and her friend from the factory went to see a film called `brief incounter` and on the same night so did her husband harry saw it in Italy . Harry was frist stationed in north africa and moved on to Italy, Norway, and Tunisa. one of the major battles Harry was involvd in was Armen which after, he said he ran for his life. Back home when every a siren would go off Olive would hide in a table with is what an indoor shelter was called or in a cupboard but one everning Olive and her mother found a mouse and said thatthey were more scared of the mouse than the bombs. Harry and Oive both felt terrible about leaving each other and their families but known it was all for the good of there country.
