This story was told to me by my Nanna, Barbara Jones, She was born in 1919 and was married at the age of 18 in 1937. By the next year, she'd had my Mum - her husband Frank (my "Bamba") was in the RAF and was away checking spitfires pre and post flights.
Nanna was on her own, a young, very pretty woman with a small baby. She used to sing down at the market, and at the end of they day, the traders would give her small amounts of their produce. She was quite a sight!
My Nanna would get excited every time she told me this story, particularly about the day when she was given 3 beautiful duck eggs to take home!
My Nanna's quite poorly now, but she could still tell you this story, true to the last detail, if you asked her.....
