I was in Theatre one day with a man who had a huge plaster. I wanted him to move up the table but I could not lift him as he was far too heavy. I thought he was German so I tried to communicate with him by signs. He was not responding to all my antics and a friend of mine came to me and said 鈥淲hat are you doing, Nurse?鈥 I said 鈥淚 am trying to get this fellow to move up the table, he鈥檚 too heavy for me鈥. With that he moved up the table and said 鈥淚s that all right now, Nurse?鈥 and I said 鈥淔or goodness sake why didn鈥檛 you tell me your were an Englishman!鈥 I had been trying all that time to try and persuade him to move but I suppose he just didn鈥檛 realise that. They had just come off boats and were disoriented, also they had been given painkillers, so I thought that he just thought I had gone a bit mad making all these signs.
We had lots of fun nursing the young boys.
