I was six towards the end of the war. The Americans would come and pick us up in the big army trucks. They would drive us back to the American camps and throw a big party. They said 鈥淒o you want some gum chum?鈥 They gave us chocolate, ice cream and jelly. My sister played the piano. They gave us presents. They said 鈥淔ather Christmas is coming鈥 and got us all quiet. Someone would go outside and ring a bell. Then they would call us one at a time.
