I was a clerk in the Royal Ordeance Depot, Ashford, Kent. During World War II, I was walking to work one morning when there was an air raid and bombs were dropped from aeroplanes. I took shelter under a bridge and put my umbrella up for extra protection! I can remember it to this day. I also spent many nights fire-watching.
