As a school boy i recorded all of the soundings of the air raid sirens up until the end of the war. All the explosions heard of the V1 and V2s i have also recorded. During the war we had various weeks, war wepons week, spitfire week and national savings. On each occasion i had a stall outside my house and collected for various spitfire week, war weapons week, and collected a fair amount of money during the weeks. Various residents also gave me other items, which i collected as sovenieurs and i still have most of those today.
One item was an incendiary bomb, which fell on the Peek Freans Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey. This failed to explode. This was given to me by a neighbour who had a bookmakers business alongside the factory, a Mr Medlar. I still have it today and is still in pristine condition.
After the war, i began collecting door to door for the Red Cross.
