This story has been submitted to the People's War web-site by CSV Action Desk Volunteer Heather McGrouther on behalf of Edna May Sumner with her permission. She fully understands the terms & conditions.
When war was declared I lived in Sidcup, Kent and worked in London at the Royal Artillery Record Offices (I was 14 years of age)in the area of Aldgate. Bombing around that area was so like the recent bombing today, we had to scramble over debris to get to the Minories to work.
At home at night, areas from London to Kent were bombed including the railways, so we never knew whether we were going on trains or buses.
