My commandos were in Southern India when the japanese were threatening to more across the Burma border, and move into India. My unit, 5 commando , were in action in the Arakan. We were pulled out of action to help in northern India. We were to fly up there but unfortunately the monsoon rains started and planes couldn't fly in the monsoon so we were sent up by train, and as we went, north trains were heading the other way south filled with wounded. Going by train we were too late to help out and it was at this point that is was thought the defeated Japanese would then try to enter India through the Naga Hills. A country which was influenced by a British woman who converted them to Christianity. I was sent into the Naga territory with five men to act as an early warning system in case the Japanese arrived, as we had no radio. We were there for 6 days living with the natives who let us sleep in a large hut and some of them slept across the door of the hut in case the Japanese arrived. We were on a small hill which had just 6 huts including a church. Then wee ran out of food and the only food available was monkey, there were plenty of them! We had no option but to shoot 2 and they were then cooked by the natives in this large hut in an open fire place with no chimney. I've never ate monkey since.
