Eileen Managan was only 5years old in 1939. She lived in Dundalk, County Leugh- Southern Ireland. Little Eileen was amazed by the barage balloons over Dundalk Bay- but hated the yellow butter Jam New Zealand and the horrible eggs preserved in Waterglass- Fit for eating on their own. Peter, Eileens husband lived in Manchester and he too remembers the barage balloons over trafford park. Bombers aimed mainly for Trafford Park because goods came inand out of the port of Manchester.
During 1942 when Peter was 8 he lived in Urmston, then a small village. When there was a raid everyone rushed down the cellar until the day when a bomb dropped right outside his house, making an enormous crater in the road outside his house. After this two special steel strutures were erected inside the house in the ground floor. These were like huge four poster beds with roofs on. They protected the whole family at night or in a raid.+-
