The days of German air attacks gave great cause for concern, not only at the civilian end of the attacks, but also at the various Royal Air Force Stations positioned throughout the UK. After the collapse of the Allied Front in France and Belgium and Holland, the Germans were able to place forward positioned Air-Fields of their own. This allowed them to step up air-raids on the U.K.
They did strike at RAF bases in order to deny the British sufficient air cover to protect the Island and many battles ensued to counter this offensive, including the now named Battle of Britain.
My Aunt Beatty served in the Women鈥檚 Royal Air Service, and it was during one of these such German air attacks that she suffered severe wounds.
One of the wounds she suffered left her with a piece of shrapnel inside her head.
Although she was generally a kind hearted, generous soul, who very often collected items of food and clothing for under-privileged families, including our own, she did suffer occasional lapses due to her wounds.
Because she had been trained in judo / jujitsu which was unusual for ladies at this time, often when the police were called to arrest her for breaking a window, I would hear stories of her throwing the police over her shoulder, and throwing them around. She his now diseased but I remember her intelligence as she would very often spot the doctors mistake in their hospital prescriptions and diagnosis. If she had not corrected them often, she would have been killed in hospital several times. I often wonder if she found out things in the underworld that she should not have. Especially when I co-relate these stories with other peoples mysterious deaths and my own enquiries and other peoples accounts at the lower levels of society, as to how much influence the so called different mafias have at even the NHS levels of organisations.
