We lived up a hill in Lostwithiel during the war. On one occasion a German plane came and circled the town. It was the occasion when a plane strafed the town and I believe our Church clock was hit. Any way, whilst this was going on our next door neighbour appeared on his doorstep with a double-barrelled shot gun. He asked my mother whether he should shoot at the plane or not. Mother told him to get indoors out of harms was. If Sid had shot at the plane and the pilot realised that he was being shot at then there could have been serious consequences, as our row of houses were quite exposed.
