i was 4 1/2 years old when the war started and my earliest memory is of getting on a tram and hearing the first siren going off. itwas 11.00a.m 3rd sept 1939.of course i didn't know what it was all about, butit has always stuck in my mind. we went to waterloo station and ended up in a place called south petherton. my mother, my baby brother, 8months and me. we were of course with a train full of other evacuees. the train emptied at yeovil and buses took us to sth petherton.we were in the blake hall where people came forward to choose who they wanted to be billeted with them. we were taken to over stratton by a young lady who was the daughter of mrs holbrook. a lovely lady.
