At Tettenhall there was a USA logistical centre, housed in Danescourt House - long since demolished.
As I understand, this centre played a major part in the build up to the Normandy Landings.
I would welcome any information no matter how small on any stories - first hand or passed down on the part Tettenhall played in WWII and especially regarding the USA Army at Danescourt.
Tettenhall also provided accommodation for many evacuees from London. The main reception centre for them was South Staffs Golf Club in Danes Court Road, from where they were found accommodation within the area.Again any information on this is welcome.
Whilst I was not born until after the war, I have quite a bit of information on the Americans in Tettenhall, have met four of them and still communicate with one, who is now in his eighties.
As time permits I hope to add various articles on Tettenhall and on local stories from the Landing Beach area.
